Product description
Mermaid Gin is a product of the Isle of Wight Distillery, the only distillery on the island, located off the south coast of England. The distillery was established in 2014 by two friends, Xavier Baker and Conrad Gauntlett. A year later, Wight Mermaids Gin debuted (the name was changed to Mermaid Gin in 2019). Its formula is created from 10 botanicals - juniper berries, coriander seeds, grains of paradise, angelica root, licorice, orris root, fresh lemon zest, rock samphire, hop cones and elderberry (the last three ingredients come from the island). After a day of maceration, they are distilled in a 300-litre still. The presentation of the gin in a sea-blue bottle further emphasises its connection with the sea (mermaid is a water nymph in English). Mermaid gin, according to the producer, tastes best with Indian Tonic and a few juniper berries and a slice of cucumber. (Official tasting note.)
Aroma: fresh citrus, sweet spices and delicate notes of juniper.
Taste : citrus zesty combined with the spiciness of pepper, floral sweetness and a delicate gust of sea breeze.
Finish: long and complex, with all elements of the flavour palette remaining in complete harmony.
