Tenjaku, or “The Lark,” is a whisky brand from the portfolio of Minami Alps Wine & Beverage Company Ltd.
It has been operating since 2012 as a subsidiary of Toukuoka Co. Ltd. (founded in 1874) based in Fuefuki, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of the main importers and distributors of wine. The first edition of Tenjaku was a blended whisky, which in 2020 won the honorable title of "Best Japanese Blend" in the competition of the American Beverage Testing Institute. That year also saw the debut of Tenjaku Pure Malt, the formula of which we only know that it consists of single malt distillates aged in bourbon barrels for six years and diluted to 43% abv with local water, the intake of which is located at a depth of 250 meters.
Nose: light and delicate, pear blossom, sweet breakfast cereal, brown sugar, vanilla, apples, bananas, a drop of elderberry liqueur, potpourri and a distant hint of smoke.
Palate : mild, vanilla cream, butter cookies, pears in syrup, ripe apples, banana cake, crème brûlée, a touch of lemongrass and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, milk fudge, sweet bread, ripe apples and pears, oak and a whisper of smoke.
