Product description
Cutty Sark Blend is the brainchild of Hugh Rudd, a partner in Berry Bros. & Rudd, a renowned London wine importer.
The year was 1923, and Rudd saw a huge business potential in bringing whiskey to the States, which were shackled by prohibition, specifically a light blend that would shine in quality compared to the local moonshine seasoned with caramel. The label was designed by Scottish graphic artist James McBey, and depicted the fastest Scottish schooner at the time, the Cutty Sark. In the 1920s and 1930s, the Cutty Sark gained huge popularity among Americans. This would pay off years later, when Cutty became the first Scotch whiskey to sell more than a million cases in the States (1961). In November 2018, the Edrington Group sold the rights to the brand to the French company La Martiniquaise-Bardinet.
