Talisker Distillery was funded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. It is located in the Isle of Skye, the largest and most northerly major island in the Inner Hebrides.
Currently the distillery is owned by Diageo and equipped with five stills produces 2.7 million liters of spirit per annum. Talisker single malt was known only locally until 1988, when United Distillers (Diageo’s predecessor) included 10 years old expression into the original Classic Malts range. Talisker Port Ruighe, named after the largest town on Skye, was introduced in 2013. It comprises whisky aged in combination of casks and finished in ruby port casks.
Nose: quite rich, dried rose petals, prunes, raisins, raspberry mousse, salty caramel, hints of pepper, little peat and a whiff of sea breeze.
Palate: slightly winey, mixed berries, chocolate-coated raisins, caramel, toffee, gingerbread, peat smoke and subtle mineral note.
Finish: long, pretty peaty and smoky, with notes of raisins, prunes, cocoa and oak.
