Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask range, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co and headed by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Laphroaig 15 years old presented here was distilled in September 2004 and aged in a refill hogshead cask (DL 13743). Bottled in November 2019 at 48.4% abv and without chill filtration, in an edition limited to 282 bottles.
Nose: smoky and marine, salty breeze, wet sand and shells, lemon peel, green apples, toffee, vanilla, lapsang souchong tea and a dash of white pepper.
Palate : peat smoke, grilled pork neck, caramel, vanilla, smoked plums, baked apples, licorice, salted peanuts and charred oak.
Finish : long, with notes of peat smoke, seaweed, lemongrass, white pepper and oak.
