Product description
The Scallywag brand was introduced by Douglas Laing & Co. in the fall of 2013. It was a small batch bottling created exclusively with Speyside malts including Macallan, Mortlach and Glenrothes and bottled without age statement.
While the standard version is a vatting of ex-sherry casks and first fill ex-bourbon barrels, the limited cask strength edition presented here is a vatting of Speyside malts aged exclusively in sherry wood. Scallywag 12 years old was bottled at natural strength of 53.6% abv in 2019 with an outrun of 6000 bottles. The name of the brand refers to the Laing family Fox Terrier, whose picture is featured on the label. (The word ‘Scallywag’ describes a person who behaves badly but in amusingly mischievous rather than harmful way).
Nose: subtle sherry notes, black cherries, raspberries, plums, cinnamon, nutmeg, dash of black pepper and hints of potpourri.
Palate: sweet cereals, golden syrup, toffee, roasted almonds, mixed berries marmalade, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper and oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of allspice, cinnamon, cloves, cocoa powder and oak.
