The Lakes Distillery was founded in 2014 by Paul Currie, son of Arran Distillery founded Harold Currie.
The distillery is located in the Lake District, one of the UK’s most picturesque settings and housed in a newly renovated Victorian model farm near Bassenthwaite. Lake Distillery produces whisky, vodka and gin and is now one of the most visited in the UK with over 100,000 visitors a year. The new reformulated gin recipe includes nine botanicals: juniper berries, coriander, angelica root, orris root, cassia bark, licorice, bitter oranges, sweet oranges and lemon peel. The botanicals are macerated in warm wheat spirit overnight allowing the essential oils to be released. The next day distillation takes place in traditional copper pot still. The Lakes gin was created by Dhavall Gandhi, who is also master blender for Lakes whisky.
The Lakes Classic Gin has citrus aromas beautifully interwoven with juniper, pine needles and peppery notes. The palate follows with lots of citrus in addition to juniper and hints of licorice. We recommend serving it with Fever Tree Indian Tonic garnished with a wedge of pink grapefruit.
