Yamazaki, the oldest Japanese whisky distillery was built by Shinjiro Torii in 1923.
The distillery started with a single pair of stills and after several expansions the number was increased to 16 and the distilling capacity to over 6 million liters of spirit per annum. Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve was introduced in 2014, it is a combination of young single malt, which has been matured in ex-red wine casks for three years and vatted with older malts matured in ex-sherry casks and Japanese Mizunara oak for up to 20 years. All casks have been selected by Shinji Fukuyo, the fourth Chief Blender in over 90 years long company history.
Nose: strawberries, raspberries, black cherries, coconut flakes, vanilla, honey, delicate notes of nutmeg and cinnamon and hints of sandalwood.
Palate: soft, honey, vanilla, red berries, prunes, peaches, hints of coconut flakes, bitter orange marmalade, cocoa powder, roasted nuts and touch of oak tannins.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, honey, butter cookies, cinnamon, hazelnuts and mixed berries marmalade.
