Product description
Spìos (Gaelic for “spicy”) is the ninth instalment in the Glenmorangie Private Edition series, which began with the now-legendary Sonnalta PX in 2009.
The distillery is an undisputed pioneer of the finishing maturation, but this time Dr. Bill Lumsden, its creative director, decided to age the whisky exclusively in American straight rye barrels. Lumsden chose Kentucky distilleries that produced this type of whiskey in the 1990s, mainly Jim Beam and Heaven Hill (remember that at that time rye whiskey was at the peak of its unpopularity and was distilled only a few days a year). Spìos, bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration, hit the market in early 2018.
Aroma: spice and herb shop, allspice, cloves, mint leaf, vanilla, toffee, honey, apples, plums and a handful of fresh herbs.
Palate: spicy, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, pepper, buttered brown bread, vanilla, toffee, apples, bananas, cocoa, notes of tobacco and oak.
Finish: quite long, spicy and nutty, with notes of toffee, oak and a delicate fruit sweetness.
