Spìos (Gaelic for ‘spice’) is the ninth annual release of award winning and very well received Private Edition series, the range of whisky introduced in 2009 with Sonnalta PX as the forerunner.
The distillery is a pioneer in using various types of barrels for aging and finishing and Spìos follows the path. This time dr. Bill Lumsden, the Director of Whisky Creation at Glenmorangie, decided to use exclusively ex-rye whiskey casks sourced from a handful of Kentucky distilleries, which produced straight rye during the 1990s. Those days that type of whiskey suffered big decline and was distilled few days a year mainly by Jim Beam and Heaven Hill distilleries. Spìos, bottled at 46% abv, unchill-filtered and of natural color, was added to the range in the early 2018
