Product description
Z44 Gin is produced by the Italian Ronner Distillerie based in South Tyrol, founded by Gottfried Ronner in 1946.
His first product was grappa, with which he achieved notable success, later followed by experiments with maceration of local herbs and roots and fruit liqueurs. The formula of Z44 gin contains several unique ingredients, the most important of which are Swiss pine cones (pinus cemba). They are hand-picked in the summer on the slopes of the mountains, then cracked and macerated in grain alcohol for three weeks, and finally their extract is distilled in a small alembic. Other ingredients include juniper berries, common yarrow, yellow gentian root, lavender, violets, coriander seeds, orange peel and several other undisclosed Alpine herbs and flowers. They are subjected to double maceration, 12 hours cold and 4 hours hot, while the most delicate of them are placed in a cotton bag and exposed to the alcohol fumes. In 2018-2019 this gin won gold medals at the World Spirits Awards.
The aromatic bouquet of Z44 gin is dominated by Alpine herbs and flowers, juniper, pine and a pinch of spices. Similarly on the palate, where delicate citrus tones are also noticeable. The producer recommends serving it only with ice cubes or in Negroni and White Lady cocktails.
