Bain's Cape Mountain is a single grain whisky distilled from 100% African yellow maize.
Distillation takes place in a still at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, South Africa. The whisky is aged in first-fill bourbon barrels for the first three years, then transferred to fresh bourbon barrels for another two years. Bain's Cape Mountain debuted in 2009 and has won a number of prestigious awards - a gold medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, a silver medal at the International Spirit Competition, and finally the title of best grain whisky at the World Whisky Awards. The James Sedgwick Distillery was founded in 1886 and is now part of the Distell Group, which also owns the assets of the Scottish company Burn Stewart Distillers.
Aroma : vanilla, milk fudge, caramel, buttered popcorn, honeydew melon, apples, sugar-roasted nuts, traces of cinnamon and coconut flakes.
Palate: mild, vanilla, crème brûlée, milk fudge, candied orange peel, golden syrup, cinnamon, candied ginger and a hint of licorice.
Finish: quite long, with notes of vanilla, cornflakes, delicate spicy and citrus notes.
