Product description
Laphroaig Distillery has been producing whisky almost continuously for two hundred years. Its single malt is the undisputed leader in Islay sales, with 3.2 million bottles produced annually.
The distillery produces its own malt, although its own malting house only covers 15% of its demand, with the remaining 85% supplied by Port Ellen Maltings. The grain malted on site has a phenol concentration of up to 60 ppm, while that malted in Port Ellen ranges from 35 to 45 ppm. Laphroaig 10 years old has been part of the company’s core range for decades. Many consider it an “Islay classic”, with strong smoky, peaty notes and a hint of brine, hiding the sweetness of vanilla and fresh fruit. Laphroaig’s retired master distiller, Iain Henderson, used to say about his whisky: “Love it or hate it, but don’t deny it a chance”.
Aroma: smoky-peaty, seaweed, air saturated with iodine, burnt grass, apples, grapes, vanilla, traces of pepper, oak and smoked fish.
Palate : A wave of peat smoke, seaweed salad, traces of tar and iodine, breakfast cereal, vanilla, toffee, baked apples, cigar ash and oak.
Finish : quite long, smoky and peaty with rather shy notes of vanilla and caramel.
