Product description
With global sales of 4.4 million cases (2021), Bombay ranks third on the list of most popular gins (behind Gordon's with 7.4 million cases and Tanqueray with 5.6 million).
The original formula for Bombay Original was developed by Thomas Dakin in 1761, and then “improved” several times. The “Bombay” brand did not appear on the market until 1960, thanks to New York lawyer Alain Subin, who thus joined the alcoholic beverage industry. The rights to it were soon purchased by United Distillers & Vintners (operating as part of the Grand Metropolitan concern), and finally, since 1997, the brand has been owned by Bacardi Ltd., which in turn outsources the distillation of Bombay to G&J Greenall. Bombay Original London Dry is distilled with eight botanical ingredients – juniper berries, coriander seeds, orris root, angelica root, licorice root, lemon peel, bitter almonds and cassia bark. The Sapphire version’s formula also includes grains of paradise and cubeb pepper.
Bombay Original is an example of a classic London Dry gin, in which notes of juniper and pine needles are beautifully complemented by citrus, cinnamon, a touch of coriander and licorice. We highly recommend serving it in a classic Martini or with Schweppes tonic, with a quarter of a lime.
