In 2015, Laphroaig Distillery celebrated its 200th anniversary. To mark the occasion, five commemorative whisky editions were released, with the 16 year old being distributed exclusively through the Travel Retail chain .

According to a spokesperson for the distillery, “Laphroaig 16 years old is a whisky as memorable as the occasion it commemorates, a drink to toast with loved ones or to enjoy slowly and contemplatively.” For years, Laphroaig has been Islay’s best-selling single malt , selling over 3.2 million bottles a year. The distillery is owned by Beam Suntory, the world’s third-largest producer of spirits.

Aroma: strong citrus tones, oranges, lemons, grapefruits, apples, vanilla, honey, sea air soaked in iodine, delicate smoky and hospital notes.

Taste: sweet and smoky, pears, apples, oranges, caramel, vanilla, a pinch of salt and pepper, peat smoke and a delicate oak bitterness.

Finish: medium long, fruity, peat smoke, licorice and a hint of salted nuts.
