Product description
In 1877, the Sánchez Romate family began producing brandy for their own use.
The drink quickly gained an excellent reputation and went on general sale as Cardenal Mendoza brandy. Its patron, Cardinal Don Pedro Gozález de Mendoza (1423-1495) was a great personality of 15th-century Spain. As an advisor to King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I, he was a great advocate of Columbus's first voyage to America and played a decisive role in the unification of Spain. Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real is an award-winning brandy aged for an average of 25 years in Oloroso sherry barrels. Its name recalls a gala dinner held at the Royal Palace in Madrid on December 2, 1900, during which wines and brandies from the Sánchez Romate cellars were served.
Nose: very elegant, plums, sultanas, dried apricots, baked plantains, brown sugar, vanilla cake, a pinch of cinnamon and a fleeting trace of furniture polish.
Palate: rich, dried plums, blackberry jam, dark chocolate, walnuts and hazelnuts, notes of tobacco, leather and sherry-soaked oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of raisins, prunes, dark chocolate, sugared nuts, vanilla, sherry and oak.
