Product description
Black Bull whisky is the creation of George Willshire, a Dundee grocery and spirits shop owner, in 1864.
George's lucky number must have been 50, as his blend was 50% single malt, 50% grain whisky and was bottled at 50% abv. The brand is now owned by Duncan Taylor Ltd, who re-branded it and expanded its range in 2009. Black Bull Kyloe debuted in January 2014. Its name refers to the Kyloe cow, which is bred in the Scottish Highlands and Islands and is extremely resistant to harsh weather conditions. Duncan Taylor does not disclose the percentage of single malt in this edition, only assuring that it is high. The whisky presented here was finished in casks previously used to mature single malts with a smoky and peaty profile.
Nose: peat, salty breeze, barley malt, brown sugar, vanilla, green apples, pears, a mixture of dried herbs, notes of leather and oak.
Palate: peat, salted peanuts, caramel, vanilla pudding, apples, lemon and orange peel, a touch of cinnamon and a little hay.
Finish: quite long, with notes of vanilla, baked apples sprinkled with cinnamon, sea salt, oak and a touch of oak.
