The Jura Distillery, built in 1810, struggled throughout the 19th century, and between 1901 and 1960 its buildings stood empty.
The last decade has seen unprecedented success for the local whisky, with sales increasing by over 500% from 2010 to 2019, from 350,000 bottles to over 2 million. Jura Distillery recently launched its Cask Edition Series with the Winter Edition and Red Wine Cask Edition. The third edition of the series presented here features whisky originally aged in American oak barrels, mostly refills, and finished in Caribbean rum barrels.
Nose : honey, caramel, golden syrup, grilled pineapple, mango, ripe apples, vanilla, cinnamon, candied ginger and a hint of coconut flakes.
Palate : toffee apples, honey, sultanas, pineapples, pralines, white chocolate, cinnamon, cloves, notes of vanilla and oak.
Finish : not too long, with notes of caramel, milk fudge, tropical fruits, sweet spices and oak.
