Founded by Paul P. John, John Distilleries Ltd has been producing blended whisky since 1992 and malt whisky since 2008.

Its biggest market success is the Original Choice blend, with annual sales of over 12.7 million cases (2019). However, the company's blends do not meet European Union standards because they are based on distillates produced from sugar molasses. Paul John single malt whisky, distilled from 6-row barley grown at the foot of the Himalayas, debuted in 2012 and was an immediate success. In 2018, Paul John began issuing a super premium series based on the signs of the zodiac. Its herald was Kanya (Virgo), the second version of Mithuna presented here, the Indian equivalent of Gemini. The whisky was aged in virgin American oak barrels and finished in bourbon barrels.

Nose: honey toast, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, licorice, banana cake, cherries, orange peel, roasted nuts, notes of potpourri and wax.

Palate : vanilla, honey, mocha, milk chocolate, coconut flakes, sultanas, figs, orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, notes of anise and toasted oak.

Finish: long, with notes of vanilla, honey, coffee liqueur, tropical fruits, mulled wine spice and oak.
