Fèis Ìle (the Islay Festival of Whisky and Music) was founded by the local people of Islay in 1986 to celebrate the heritage and culture of Isle of Islay and to provide a pan cultural and activity based series of events.
Each of Islay distilleries commemorates the event with a special bottling. For the 2014 Bunnahabhain Distillery released limited edition of Westering Home 17 years old. The whisky distilled in November 1996 was originally matured in refill American oak casks then in October 2007 transferred into ex-cognac cask and finally into a Sauternes wine cask in December 2013. Only 301 bottles of this cask strength whisky (53.4% abv) were produced. The label was designed by Mathilda Holmqvist from Sweden, whose design was chosen as the winner of the ‘Tales of the Sea Design Competition’.
