Bottle No. 1018 / 2400
Rosebank Distillery was founded in 1840 but it is highly possible that whisky was produced on site as early as 1773. The distillery was equipped with one wash still and two spirit stills and produced traditional Lowland triple-distilled malt. Many whisky aficionados considered Rosebank whisky as the finest in the region. Sadly, the distillery was mothballed in 1993 and never reopened. Since 2002 the site is owned by British Waterways and most of the buildings have been converted into pubs and offices. The 15 years old expression was bottled at natural strength of 61% abv for Zenith-Italia in the mid 1970s with an outrun of 2400 bottles.
Nose: little shy, herbal, grassy and spirity, lemon curd, grapefruits, apples, forest floor, beeswax, moist hay and hints of shoe polish.
Palate: oily and herbal, lemon grass, bitter orange marmalade, grapefruits, peanut butter, candied lemon peel, malted barley and oak.
Finish: long and powerful, lemons and grapefruits, hay and quite pleasant oaky bitterness.
