In 2004 the Macdonald family, owners of Glenmorangie plc, sold the company to Louis Vuitton for £300 million.
Just three years later the entire Glenmorangie range got a complete makeover. Gone were old widely available wood finishes, two for good (Burgundy and Madeira), while Port and Sherry got a major revamp. Port Wood Finish (part of the core range since 1994) was re-introduced as Quinta Ruban. After spending 10 years in ex-bourbon barrels the whisky was transferred to ex-port pipes for additional two years. Quinta Ruban is bottled at 46% abv and without chill-filtration.
Nose: fruity, blood oranges, raspberries, traces of blackcurrants, walnuts, hints of cedar and mint, dark chocolate, notes of pepper and nutmeg.
Palate: sweet and slightly winey, chocolate-coated nuts, raspberry jam, plums, toffee, candied ginger and dash of cinnamon and mint.
Finish: pretty long, Demerara sugar, butterscotch, bitter oranges and delicate spicy notes.
