Year 2004 brought a lot of changes to Glenmorangie plc. First, the company purchased Scotch Malt Whisky Society but just a few months later it was itself acquired by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy for £300 million.
In 2007 the entire Glenmorangie range got a complete makeover, some expressions were phased out, others given new names as well as new presentation. The standard 10 years old expression was re-launched as 10 years old Original. The whisky has been aged in ex-bourbon casks but up to 30% of spirit comes from artisan casks (made from white American oak grown in Ozark Mountains and air dried).
Nose: very fresh and friendly, apples, peaches, gooseberries, acacia blossom, vanilla, caramel, lemon peel and hints of oak.
Palate: sweet and fruity, vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate, apples, oranges, grapes, traces of lemon grass and ginger and very little oak.
Finish: fairly long, vanilla and fruity sweetness balanced with dry herbal notes.
