In 2016 Billy Walker sold BenRiach Distillery Company (BenRiach, GlenDronach and GlenGlassaugh distilleries) and immediately started looking for new challenges. His purchase of Glenallachie distillery in July 2017 surprised many, mostly because of its big capacity of 4 million liters of spirit per annum. GlenAllachie is fairly young distillery, built in 1968 has supplied malt whisky for Pernod Ricard brands, mainly Clan Campbell, Passport and 100 Pipers. In the spring of 2018, to commemorate the distillery 50th Anniversary, Mr. Walker launched six single cask expressions ranging from 1978 to 1991. The oldest in the range was ex-sherry butt no. 10296 filled on December 11, 1978. Almost four decades later the butt produced 120 bottles of cask strength whisky (55.9% abv).
