The story of the Angostura brand dates back to 1824, when a certain German doctor started to work on the improvement of his aromatic herb based mixtures in a town of Angostura.
His ultimate aim was to create a concoction that would be a remedy for the alimentary ailments of the Venezuelan army soldiers. It didn’t take long for Doctor Johann Siegert to retire from the army and take up manufacturing of his own bitters. In time, his company became an official supplier for the royal courts of Prussia, Spain and Great Britain. Today Angostura bitters and premium Caribbean rums are known worldwide.
Despite quite a common misconception, the bark of Angostura trifolata tree is not used in the manufacturing of Angostura bitters and rums, but the name comes from the name of a town where it all started, later renamed to Ciudad Bolivar.
Angostura Reserva Premium is a white rum, distilled in the five-column still system in the Angostura distillery, matured for 3 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks. Its bouquet is light and floral, with notes of herbs, citrus fruit, some peppermint, white pepper, slight overtones of berries and mangoes, some nuts.
