Between 2009 and 2015 whisky aficionados could follow the development of Kilkerran single malt with annual Work in Progress releases. In August 2016 Kilkerran lost its ‘work in progress’ status with the launch of 12 years old, which will be the core expression going forward. It is a vatting of ex-bourbon (70%) and ex-sherry (30%) casks bottled without chill-filtration at 46% abv. Kilkerran single malt is produced at Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown. Why, in times of unprecedented popularity of whisky the distillery is running at 7-8% its capacity producing roughly 50 000 liters of spirit per annum is anyone’s guess.
