Springbank Distillery was founded in 1828 and today still remains in hands of descendants of the founding family. The distillery sits in the heart of Campbeltown, town/whisky-producing region situated on the Kintyre peninsula. Between 1880s and 1920 there were 34 operating distilleries, but only two survived to the new Millennium. The 32 years old expression comprises whisky distilled in 1971 and aged in refill sherry casks. Bottled at 46% abv in September 2004 with an outrun of 2400 bottles.
Nose: surprisingly fresh, waxy, furniture polish, dried flowers, hints of lavender, vanilla, toffee, peanut butter, baked apples, bananas, traces of cinnamon and coconut flakes.
Palate: nicely balanced, apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon, raisins, apricots, oranges, toffee, vanilla, milk chocolate and subtle oaky notes.
Finish: long and sweet, apples, apricots, bitter orange marmalade, caramel and vanilla.
