Powers is an old Irish whiskey brand established by John Power & Sons in the early 19th Century. It was originally produced in John’s Lane Distillery in Dublin. John Power & Sons was one of the founders of Irish Distillers Group in 1966 and since 1975 Powers whiskey has been produced by Midleton Distillery. Originally pure pot still whiskey the brand was reformulated as a blend with high pot still content. In the new century Irish whiskey enjoys unprecedented boom and no wonder that Pernod Ricard, parent company of Irish Distillers, has been strongly marketing pot still whiskeys. Powers Signature launched 2013 was a return to the brand origins, whiskey distilled from mash containing 60% unmalted and 40% malted barley and aged in ex-bourbon and to lesser extend in ex-sherry casks.
