Glen Garioch (est. 1797) is a small distillery owned by Morrison Bowmore Ltd, since 1994 controlled by the Japanese conglomerate Suntory. From 1908 to 1937 Glen Garioch was owned by William Sanderson & Son and supplied malt to the company’s flagship blend VAT 69. The 8 years old expression was part of the distillery core range from the late 1970s until early 2000s. The bottle presented here comes from the late 1990s and contains whisky predominantly matured in ex-bourbon casks.
Nose: malty, slightly floral, autumn leaves, hay, gooseberries, pears, vanilla, butterscotch, hints of oak and peat.
Palate: malty, and slightly nutty, buttered toast, walnuts, apples, pears, vanilla and traces of oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of toasted bread, licorice, and oak.
