Product description
Macallan is currently the third most popular single malt in the world, behind Glenfiddich and Glenlivet, with 9.5 million bottles sold annually.
The Double Cask 12 years old expression was released in 2016, it was the first Macallan release in three years with age statement. Double Cask is a marriage of European oak and American oak casks with the proportion of the latter greater than in the 12 years old Sherry Oak expression. The American oak travels to Spain where it is seasoned with Oloroso sherry alongside European casks then both are transported to the Macallan distillery and filled with the new make spirit. It is hard to tell yet if Macallan 12 years old Double Cask indicates return to the old good tradition of age statement, we certainly hope so.
Nose: classic sherry cask nose, candied orange peel, raisins, butterscotch, honey, vanilla custard and delicate oaky and nutty notes.
Palate: pretty rich, oranges, bananas, touch of coconut, raisins, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, candied ginger and oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of vanilla, milk chocolate, raisins, candied orange peel, nutmeg and oak.
