Holyrood Distillery is coming

Holyrood Distillery, established very recently in 2019, has just released its first single malt whisky.

Holyrood Arrival, as the beverage is called, is a whisky with no age declaration, matured in a combination of oloroso sherry butt casks, Pedro Ximénez hogsheads, bourbon barrels and rum barriques. Bottled without caramel coloring or cold filtration, as a 46.2% vol beverage.

According to the manufacturer, in the flavor Holyrood Arrival we find notes of dried fruits, tropical fruits, raisins, fudge, freshly baked cake, toffee, leather and cookies. In the taste we can expect accents of toffee, caramel, vanilla, digestive biscuits, ginger, fudge, slight saltiness and raisins.

The name of the new whisky is a reference to the location of the distillery. It was launched in the building of the former disused Innocent railroad station, located in almost the heart of Edinburgh, at the foot of the Salisbury Crags hills. The Innocent railroad line, once leading to the railroad station on St. Leonard's Lane, was decommissioned many years ago, but to this day near the distillery you can still admire Scotland's first railroad tunnel, just over half a kilometer long, built between 1827 and 1830.

The new whisky is a limited edition of 8188 bottles, and the purchase of each bottle will mean an expenditure of £67.

Holyrood Distillery was the first Scotch malt whisky plant in 125 years, located in Scotland's capital, Edinburgh. It is a small plant, based on two alembic machines, with a maximum capacity of 250,000. liters of pure alcohol per year. In addition to whisky, Holyrood also produces vodka and gin. The company also bottles rum.

There are now three distilleries operating in Edinburgh - a year after Holyrood was launched, Bonnington was launched, and literally a few days ago the Port of Leith Distillery, an unusual vertical distillery located on the harborfront in the Leith district, was launched.
