Product description
The Cutty Sark blend was formulated by Hugh Rudd, a partner at London-based wine importer Berry Bros. & Rudd.
It was the first Scotch whisky bottled in a natural color, while maintaining high quality. It was 1923 and Rudd saw the future in delivering whisky to the States shackled by prohibition, whisky that would stand out from the ocean of moonshine, at best seasoned with caramel. The success of Cutty Sark was enormous, probably contributed to by the legendary Captain Bill McCoy, an honest smuggler who always delivered the goods to the recipient in the state in which they left the place of shipment. The fame of the whisky would pay off years later, when Cutty Sark became the first "Scotch" to exceed the magical number of one million cases sold in the USA (1961). In our opinion, the bottle presented here comes from the 1980s.
