Product description
Glen Garioch Distillery, based in Old Meldrum in the Eastern Highlands, has been producing whisky since 1797, making it one of the oldest in Scotland.
The plant's offer from recent years is basically a completely "unpeated" whisky, but distillates produced before 1994 had a completely different, "smoky-peated" character. Until then, the plant produced malt itself, in which the concentration of phenol compounds was around 10 ppm. The 10-year-old edition presented here contains just such a whisky, distilled in the 1970s and being an excellent example of an old-school "highland" malt.
Aroma : a wonderful combination of malt and peat, autumn leaves, heather, honey, roasted almonds and light oak tones.
Taste: pleasantly balanced, malty, slightly buttery, sweet breakfast cereals, toffee, honey-roasted nuts, a hint of hay and peat smoke.
Finish : quite long, honey sweetness balanced by herbal notes and peat smoke.
