Ayrshire (Ladyburn)1970 Bottled 2000, Gordon & MacPhail /40%/0.7
- Ladyburn Distillery located in Ayrshire was one of the shortest living projects in the 20th Century Scotch whisky history.
Product description
Ladyburn is one of the shortest operating Scottish malt distilleries of the 20th century.
Built in 1966 on the site of William Grant's new Girvan grain distillery and equipped with two pairs of stills, it distilled exclusively for Grant's blends . In 1975, due to Girvan's expansion plans, the stills were removed from the facility. Ladyburn is undoubtedly one of the most collectible single malts . Official releases can be counted on the fingers of one hand, with only a few more coming from independent bottlers. The Gordon & MacPhail version presented here, bottled as "from Ayrshire Distillery" (William Grant & Sons do not allow independent distilleries to use their names) in 2000 in the Rare Old Collection series , is a 30-year-old Ladyburn distilled in 1970.
