Product description
The Antiquary is the creation of brothers John and William Hardie, wine merchants from Edinburgh, in 1888.
Exactly 60 years later J.&W. Hardie and its assets were taken over by DCL and until 1996 The Antiquary was blended by the company's blending masters. The brand currently belongs to the Tomatin Distillery Company. The 21-year-old edition presented here comes from the last century. Its formula lists over 30 components, over 50% of which is malt whisky. The most important are Cragganmore, Glenrothes, Mortlach, Linkwood, Clynelish, Glenkinchie, Tomatin and Bowmore, while grain whisky was supplied by Cameronbridge and Port Dundas. The distillates were aged in both bourbon and sherry casks.
Nose: fresh and fruity, barley malt, apples, plums, oranges, lemons, milk fudge, vanilla, a bit of hay and a distant hint of smoke.
Palate: mild, sweet cereals, vanilla, caramel, honey, peaches, apples, oranges, traces of lemongrass and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of toffee, dark chocolate, a pinch of pepper, oak bitterness and a touch of peat.
