Product description
Georgia Moon (full name Shine on Georgia Moon) is a classic example of a somewhat neglected American corn whiskey.
By definition, it must be distilled from a mash containing at least 80% corn and does not require maturation. If it is, fresh or refilled barrels are acceptable. The history of the Georgia Moon brand is shrouded in mystery; it currently belongs to Heaven Hill Distillers and is distilled in Bernheim's own distillery in Louisville (although the label lists Johnson Distilling Co. from Bardstown as the producer). The whiskey is aged for no longer than 30 days and presented in old-fashioned screw-top jars. Its name is of course a nod to the moonshiners who distilled in the woods at night so that the smoke would not give away their location during the day.
Georgia Moon is not an example of a mild drink that caresses the taste buds with the sweetness of roasted corn, it is a replica of traditional corn moonshine with its own characteristics. We can detect here notes of mash, alcohol, cooked corn and a hint of anise. The whiskey presented here is bottled at 40% alcohol.
