Premier Barrel Selection from the Douglas Laing & Co. portfolio is one of the most impressively packaged whisky lines.

It comes to market in old-fashioned stoneware decanters, always accompanied by a short stanza referring to the whisky in question, expressed using alliteration. All the whiskies in the Premier Barrel series are bottled naturally and without chill filtration, at 46% abv. The Aberfeldy 10 years old presented here was matured in an American oak barrel; its contents amounted to 223 bottles (or rather stoneware). The Aberfeldy Distillery is located in the southern Highlands. Built in 1896, it has been owned by Bacardi Ltd since 1998 and equipped with two pairs of stills produces 3.4 million litres of distillate per year, most of which goes into Dewar's blends.

Nose : sweet breakfast cereals, honey, vanilla, apples, peaches, peanut butter, a touch of ginger, white pepper, hay and oak.

Palate: apples, gooseberries, mirabelle jam, vanilla, coconut, green tea, notes of licorice and pine needles.

Finish : medium long, with notes of orchard fruit, vanilla, honey, lemongrass, licorice and oak.
