In 1824, Sir Alexander Ramsay built and registered the Fettercairn Distillery, making it the second officially licensed distillery in Scotland after the Glenlivet Distillery.
The plant has two pairs of stills capable of distilling 3.2 million liters of alcohol and is currently operating at about 75% of its capacity. Fettercairn has been owned by Whyte & Mackay since 1973 (its assets were acquired by Emperador Inc. in 2014) and the vast majority of its production is used to blend its portfolio. However, in 2018, the company introduced four new Fettercairn editions, the youngest of which was aged for 12 years and the oldest for 50.
Aroma: mild, fruity, spring meadow, apples, peaches, pineapples, vanilla, milk chocolate, roasted peanuts, some herbs and oak.
Taste: delicate, orange peel, ripe apples, vanilla pudding, sponge cake, candied ginger, cloves, a handful of herbs, pepper and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, summer fruits, ginger, oak and mint leaf.
