Product description
Douglas Laing & Co. was owned for over 40 years by brothers Fred and Stewart Laing.
In 2013, the brothers split the assets and went their own way. The Provenance series remained in the Douglas Laing & Co. portfolio, now owned by Fred. Early 2015 brought a change in design – while the previous presentation referred to the season, the current one emphasises the region in which the distillery is based. The Caol Ila presented here, distilled in October 2012, spent over eight years in a refill hogshead cask DL 15289. Bottled in September 2021 at 46% abv, with no added colouring and no chill filtration in an edition of 390 bottles.
Nose: sea breeze and seaweed, tarred ropes, wet sand and gravel, smoked bacon, white pepper, lemon peel and peat smoke.
Palate : peat smoke, salty breeze, burnt toast, salted peanuts, lemon peel, green olives, seaweed salad and oak.
Finish : fairly long, with notes of peat smoke, sea salt and kelp, white pepper and charred oak.
