Product description
The Château du Breuil estate, founded in the 15th century, is located on the Pays d'Auge plain, famous for its cool climate.
The climate is conducive to the growth of apples with an exceptionally rich flavor. The first mentions of alcohol production on the estate date back to the 16th century. When Philippe Bizouard purchased the estate in 1954, he decided to modernize production. According to the producer, the time from the moment of obtaining the juice from the apples to the beginning of its fermentation is crucial to the production of Calvados of the highest quality. To obtain a liter of alcohol, the producer uses about 25 kilograms of apples. The production potential is estimated at 400 thousand liters per year. The distillate matured in oak barrels for 7 years, then it was poured into smaller barrels that previously contained sherry, a fortified wine from the south of Spain. The product combines the classic school of Calvados production, as well as the modern approach of alcohol producers enriching the classic lines, with versions that spend the last months of maturation in various types of barrels. Classic products gain a new dimension through this procedure.
