Product description
In early September 2019, just before the Rugby World Cup in Japan, Walsh Whiskey Distillery introduced a limited edition of Writer's Tears finished in Japanese oak barrels.
This extraordinary blend of single pot still (60%) and single malt (40%) distillates after maturation in American white oak barrels was placed for another nine months in two Mizunara oak barrels. Mizunara oak grows very slowly, which is why it is extremely expensive and rarely used for maturation of whisky. The whisky was bottled at 55% abv and without chill filtration in the single cask version; our bottle is one of 636 filled from barrel no. 543. This extraordinary whisky was available only in the Travel Retail chain at Dublin and Cork airports.
Aroma : fruity and spicy, ripe apples and pears, peaches, lemon peel, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon, allspice, toffee, coconut flakes and a pinch of salt.
Palate: soft, apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon, plums, coconut flakes, cocoa powder, hazelnuts, a mixture of fresh herbs and a hint of cedar.
Finish : medium long, quite spicy, with notes of allspice, candied ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, green apples and a hint of cocoa.
