Highland Park 18 years old debuted in 1997, almost 20 years after the excellent 12-year-old version.

The whisky was blended from 60% spirits aged in first-fill Spanish oak sherry casks and went on to win an immediate gold medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition. In 2017, Edrington Group reimagined its core Highland Park range. The new visualisation is inspired by the period around 800 AD, when Orkney was under the rule of the Vikings from the kingdom of Denmark and Norway, and in particular by the wooden carvings from that era that adorned the church in the Norwegian village of Ornes. The 18-year-old presented here is called Viking Pride. Highland Park is currently the 14th most popular single malt whisky, with 2.2 million bottles sold in 2021.

Aroma: floral, slightly smoky, autumn leaves, pine needles, orange peel, honeydew melon, birch jam, walnuts, heather honey, caramel and oak.

Palate: pleasantly smoky, honey, toffee, vanilla, mixed nuts, raisins, blood oranges, grapefruit, cinnamon rolls, mocha, nutmeg and oak.

Finish: medium long, slightly smoky, with notes of honey, toffee, cinnamon, cloves, orange peel, a bit of hay and oak.
