Tyrconnell 16 years old is a limited edition from 2017 and the oldest version of this whiskey. It is a whiskey distilled twice at the Cooley distillery from Irish barley and aged exclusively in bourbon barrels.
The Tyrconnell brand debuted in 1876 as a proposal of A. Watt Distillery. It was named after the horse that unexpectedly won the prestigious race The National Product Stakes, providing a payout of 100:1. Tyrconnell whiskey disappeared from the market in 1925 with the bankruptcy of A. Watt Distillery, but after more than 60 years it returned in the offer of Cooley Distillery. It currently belongs to Kilbeggan Distillery Company operating as part of the Beam Suntory concern.
Nose : citrus stand, oranges, pineapples, cantaloupe, bananas, coconut flakes, vanilla, milkshake, milk chocolate and oak.
Taste: sweet, fruity, bananas, grapefruits, passion fruit, baked apples, vanilla cream, cappuccino, a pinch of cinnamon and a pleasant bitterness of oak.
Finish : long, lots of citrus, vanilla, milk chocolate, mulled wine spices and oak.
