Ram ón Bilbao Crianza Rioja 2019 / 14% / 0.75l
The history of the winery is inextricably linked to the story of young Ramon, who from his earliest years had a knack for entrepreneurship. He was led to wine production by the phylloxera epidemic, when the raging plague destroyed most of the vineyards in France, and the French, hungry for quality spirits, looked with a favorable eye at the Rioja region, which had a winemaking tradition for several hundred years. Young Ramon watched the development of the region, wondering whether he too could not engage in wine production and trade. His uncle, who was involved in it at the time, encouraged him to follow this direction, after his death Ramon married his own aunt and took over the business.
When Ramon created his first vineyard, the epidemic reached the Rioja region, destroying all of the young Bilbao's possessions. He tirelessly engaged in the grain trade, all the while also buying plots of land near the city of Haro and planting them with vines. He did not have time to enjoy his new vineyard, because he died in 1929, leaving the business to his son Enrique. Today, it is one of the most recognized Spanish brands, as evidenced by numerous awards and distinctions in wine competitions.
Wine made from 100% Tempranillo grapes, from vineyards cultivated in a sustainable manner, which has been confirmed by an appropriate certificate. It is also a vegan wine. After the vinification process, it spends 14 months in American oak barrels. On the nose, it is aromatic and very accessible, developing towards notes of red and black fruits, delicately emphasized by vanilla accents. On the palate, it is round and velvety, gracefully combining fruit flavors and fresh, juicy tannin, and all this harmonizes with well-accented acidity. The finish is long and pleasant, with accents of spices and a slightly spicy note.
It tastes best when served at a temperature of 16-18 degrees. It is recommended to decant it before serving to ensure an optimal level of aeration, which will allow it to show its full strengths. In culinary combinations, it will work well with grilled red meats, pasta in heavier sauces, roasts, or medium-aromatic cheeses.
