Product description
The history of the vineyard began in 1946, when Etienne Guigal founded a vineyard in the town of Anpuis, located in the very center of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. From the very beginning, he focused on plots located in the most prestigious areas of the Rhône, thanks to which, while developing his company, he bought plots only in places that guaranteed high-quality grapes, which in turn perfectly reflect the character of the appellation enclosed in the bottle. To this day, the family uses the experience of its predecessors to draw the best from their fruit, while at the same time focusing on sustainable development and environmental protection.
The headquarters is in the Château d'Ampuis, a 12th-century castle that served various functions throughout the years, then fell into decline in the 20th century. It is now a national monument, purchased by the Guigal family in 1995 and restored with great effort. The reconstruction project itself took 5 years, the entire renovation 11 years, and over 100 people worked on it.
Gigondas 2020 E. Guigal / 15% / 0.75l
Wine made from a classic blend of Grenache (70%), Syrah (20%) and Mourvèdre (10%) grapes from the southern Rhône. The grapes used for production come from vines with an average age of 40 years and are subject to strict selection during harvest. After the vinification process, there is a maturation process in oak barrels for 2 years, of which half of the barrels are new, the other part has been used before.
On the nose it is very intense and richly complex, full of aromas of blackberries, dark cherries and currants, with accents of forest litter. On the palate it is well-built, yet harmonious, developing towards flavors of forest fruits and nuts, combined with soft and juicy tannins, as well as refreshing acidity. The finish is long and intense, with a delicate note of pepper and vanilla.
