Product description
Suntory Old Whisky debuted in 1950 and was the company's hallmark for decades to come.
Shinjiro Torii supposedly had it ready, including the label design, 10 years earlier, but the political climate was not conducive to promoting whisky, especially in the premium segment. Suntory Old was indeed an old whisky, one of its first advertisements stated that the drink was "distilled from the Golden Melon variety of barley and aged in sherry oak barrels for 8 to 15 years". The original label lists Kotobukiya Ltd as the producer of Suntory Old (remember that it was not until 1963 that Keizo Saji changed the company's name to Suntory). We can also assume that for a dozen or so years, the Suntory Old brand represented Yamazaki whisky, as subsequent distilleries Suntory, Hakushu and Chita did not begin production until 1973. The limited edition presented here with floral labels (black and white) was released in the 1980s.
