Product description
Glenfarclas, founded in 1836, is the oldest privately owned Speyside distillery, having belonged to the Grant family since 1865.
The Grants have been tempted by lucrative offers to buy for years, but so far without success. 2022 was an extremely important year in the distillery's history - it won the prestigious title of "Distiller of the Year" in The Icon of Whisky Awards. This title coincided with the release of the 50-year-old edition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company's chairman, John Grant. In our opinion, this is the third edition of the 50-year-old, the previous ones were released in 2016 and 2019. The selection of casks (sherry, of course) was made by the distillery manager Callum Fraser and the managing director Douglas Belford. The 50% abv whisky is presented in a bottle made by the Glencairn studio, resting in an elegant case. Only 836 bottles of this collector's edition were released. (Official tasting note.)
Aroma : in the aromatic bouquet we discover marzipan, almonds and cedar wood, delicate smoky notes and stewed apples and dark chocolate.
Palate : Rich notes of dark chocolate and toffee syrup accompanied by candied citrus peels, wrapped in sweet smoke; a surprisingly mild and velvety bouquet for a 50-year-old whisky.
Finish: all elements of the flavor palette linger in the mouth for eternity.
