Kilchoman Distillery, the first distillery built on Islay in 124 years, commenced operation in June 2005.
The local single malt debuted in the autumn of 2009 and was extremely highly rated by whisky lovers. Kilchoman Loch Gorm joined the offer in 2013. It is a small batch whisky, of which several thousand bottles hit the market each year. The 2022 edition consisted of 17,250 bottles filled with whisky distilled between 2007 and 2013 and aged in 20 first-fill and two-refill Oloroso sherry butt casks. The name Loch Gorm refers to the largest freshwater loch on the island of Islay, rich in trout.
Nose: fruity and smoky, strawberries, blood oranges, cherries, toffee, caramel, ginger cookies, licorice, nutmeg and sherry-soaked oak.
Taste : lots of peat smoke, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, raisins, salted caramel, milk chocolate, walnuts, cloves and a pinch of pepper.
Finish : quite long, with notes of peat smoke, multi-berry jam, a touch of ginger, nutmeg, sherry and oak.
