- The Chequers brand is named after the country house of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Product description
Whisky Chequers is named after the summer residence of the British Prime Ministers.
We don't know exactly when it debuted, nor do we know its formula, although we can assume that one of the key ingredients was Linkwood. Chequers blend was originally put together by a company specializing in whisky blending, John McEwan & Sons, founded in 1863 in Elgin. At the beginning of the 20th century, it had a distilling license for the Linkwood distillery. In 1932, the DCL group took over, and five years later John McEwan & Sons also joined it. Chequers whisky experienced some popularity overseas in the 1960s. The brand currently belongs to Diageo, but has not been produced for years.
