The latest expansion has secured the Glenlivet Distillery the title of Scotland's largest malt distillery – equipped with 14 pairs of stills, it can produce 21 million litres of distillate per year.
The Glenlivet ended 2020 with sales of 14.5 million bottles, down 4% on the previous year; its arch-rival Glenfiddich sold similarly, but by more than 20% (only in 2014 did Glenlivet outsell Glenfiddich). This Glenlivet 2006 Vintage is the Signatory Vintage offering from the Cask Strength Collection. Distilled on 17 October 2006, the whisky spent 14 years in a first-fill sherry butt (no. 901008) and was bottled at 54.2% abv on 31 August 2021 in an edition of 257 bottles.
Aroma: well-balanced, raisins, cherries, raspberries, dark chocolate, hazelnuts, Christmas gingerbread, honey, cinnamon, cloves, notes of licorice and tobacco.
Palate: sherry, blood oranges, raisins, cherries, dried dates, hazelnuts and almonds, dark chocolate, caramel, honey, black pepper, cinnamon and toasted oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of sweet dried fruit, honey, dark chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and oak.
