The North British Distillery, based in Edinburgh, was founded in 1885 by Andrew Usher, William Sanderson and John M. Crabbie.
Since 1993, it has been owned by Lothian Distillers, a joint venture between Diageo and Edrington Group (50% each). The North British Distillery produces 65 million litres of distillate per year, with corn being its main input grain. This single cask is a proposal from Douglas McGibbon & Co. (a subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co.) in their Clan Denny series. Distilled in March 2003, it was aged in a refill bourbon cask, DMG 15117, for over 18 years. Bottled at 48% abv in June 2021 in an edition of 456 bottles.
Nose : sweet, candy store, breakfast cereal, brown sugar, toffee syrup, sweet bread, baked apples, notes of cinnamon and oak.
Taste : sweet with a delicate spiciness, vanilla, caramel, golden syrup, milk chocolate, sultanas, buttery croissant, cinnamon, ginger and a slight bitterness of oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of breakfast cereal, vanilla, caramel, candied citrus peel, a touch of kitchen spices and oak.
